What Kind of Paper Should You Buy?

Choosing the right paper doesn't have to be complicated. To decide which paper is right for you, simply consider which type of printer you have (inkjet or laser) and, most importantly, what type of documents you'll be printing.

Everyday copies, memos and emails

Let's be honest—you really don't need the most expensive copy paper for your daily faxes and memos. So, for these tasks, choose standard copy paper with a 20 lb. weight and 92 brightness (US). Looking for a greener option? Choose one of our recycled paper options to help save natural resources and help prevent waste in landfills.

Copy Paper Choices:

The amount and type of copy paper you buy is up to you and should be based on your specific household or business needs. Depending on your volume of printing and copying, paper can be purchased in single reams of 500 sheets or in bulk cases of 3, 5 or 10 reams. Some Office Depot® brand paper choices for your copying and printing needs are::

• Office Depot® Brand Red Top paper is an economical, standard 20 lb. paper with a brightness of 92 that is great for printing documents and making copies for internal use, like memos and emails. Red Top is also available as bulk copy paper. 8 ½ " x 11" case item number: 348037.
• Office Depot® Brand Blue Top Multipurpose paper is a 20 lb. paper with a higher brightness of 94. For creating professional-looking documents and reports. High contrast makes text and graphics really stand out! Blue Top is also available as bulk copy paper. 8 ½ " x 11" case item number: 940593.
• Office Depot® Brand Yellow Top Premium Multipurpose paper is a 20 lb. paper that resists bleed-through. At a 96 brightness level, images and graphics really stand out on this paper. Yellow Top is also available as bulk copy paper. 8 ½ " x 11" case item number: 536640.
• Office Depot® Brand EnviroCopy™ Recycled paper paper is 20 lb. paper that is great for eco-conscious offices. Suitable for everyday use, recycled paper contains at least 30% postconsumer content and has a brightness level of 92. 8 ½ " x 11" case item number: 940650.

Looking to step up your game? Then step up to a brighter paper, like Office Depot® Brand Blue Top Multipurpose paper or Office Depot® Brand Yellow Top Premium Multipurpose paper and give your work a cleaner, more professional appearance.

Presentation paper, brochures, signs and flyers

If you're really looking to impress your customers and co-workers, choose Laser paper or Inkjet paper that's specially designed to give you the best possible results from your printer. It's brighter (96-98 brightness) to make your photos and graphics more vivid, plus its heavier weight) so ink won't show through on 2-sided documents. Inkjet paper features a specialized surface that dries faster than ordinary printer paper to reduce smudges and smears, while the smooth surface of laser paper reduces smearing by accepting heated toner more readily than standard copy paper. Laser or Inkjet paper costs a little more than standard copy paper, but your audience will notice the difference.

Photo Paper

Photos capture the moments that you want to remember forever so make your pictures great by giving them a photo-shop finish with acid-free, quality photo paper. Choose glossy photo paper if you prefer that traditional high-shine look or select a matte finish for a fingerprint-resistant surface. Printing pictures on your inkjet photo printer using high quality photo paper or Inkjet paper gives you instant prints to display and share.
