Brilliant monitor
This is the perfect screen!
I upgraded from a more square 1280x1024 screen.
This screen:
1- Is incredibly light and slim.
2- Is *WIDE*. Lots of screen space. You can have two pages side by side. It's like having two monitors.
3- Has great viewing angles.
4- Has not a single dead pixel.
5- Has bright and brilliant colors.
6- Is very reasonably priced.
Just one con: it took me a few minutes to figure out how to mount it on its base.

Acer S230HL Monitor
Had this monitor shipped, have used it for one day with Windows 7, and I'm completely pleased. Am using HDMI->DVI converter cable to connect to the DVI input on the monitor. Text is extremely clear and sharp across the entire screen.
Good set of monitor pre-sets for various uses (standard, high graphics, movie, low power, custom). The standard brightness (100%) was brighter than I needed; and I set it to 75%. So there should be a good range for most tastes. I prefer the cool color setting to the default (warm).
Before installing the monitor, I recommend loading the CD, saving the user guide (PDF) to disk and reading that first because only the quick start guide is provided in printed form, and it is a little thin on the details. In particular, it doesn't really describe how to assemble the stand. However, it wasn't too hard to figure out even without the instructions.
Be careful to leave the monitor on while Windows is auto-detecting the monitor. I accidentally turned the monitor off briefly during this process. Then Windows wouldn't send a signal to the HDMI port, even though the BIOS did. I was able to correct this by switching back to the VGA cable, restarting Windows (which resulted in a signal being set to the monitor), shutting down Windows, and switching back to the HDMI->DVI cable. Text appeared slightly less clear when using the VGA interface, so getting the DVI interface working was important.
I find that the screen looks unchanged when viewed at an angle up to 45 degrees. Beyond that, it begins to fade a little, but the image is still usable. The screen tilts back up to 15 degrees and down about 5. I have the monitor placed on my desk on top of my system unit (which is about 4 inches thick), and the height is just about perfect. Bottom edge of screen is about 3 inches above the bottom surface of the base. The monitor cannot be rotated 90 degrees into portrait, but that isn't a drawback given how I organize my Windows desktop.
My previous monitor was a flat panel 1280x1024 with non-LED backlight, and getting the extra screen area (1920x1080) with LED backlight has been a very significant improvement.

Great purchase and great display
I was in search of a monitor that was compatible with Macs and this one works flawlessly. Bright, colorful, high quality image. Text is easy to read. I used a DVI to HDMI converter cable then a HDMI to DisplayPort adapter and it works just great. Very excited about this purchase and would recommend to anyone. The images shown on the Office Depot website are not accuracte to what the actual product looks like. The base is a little different (rounded - not spoked).
