Not bad for laptop use First off, if you're buying these bacause the description says, "Material - wood", you will be sadly disappointed. They are glossy black plastic. Not even wood grain. They are powered by a USB cable (included), but still plug into the speaker jack on the computer. They are smaller than you might think from the picture. They are not bad for laptop use. Not much base, but hey, I didn't expect any. A little hum. I didn't have a CRT monitor to check out the "magnetic shielding", but I suspect you'd have problems. The speakers - besides being magnetic themselves have a strong magnet at the top of the case so thaat the two speakers will "stick" together. These magnets are strong and would be in exactly the wrong place if used with a CRT monitor. The "clipping together" is an interesting concept, but the execution is flawed. When clipped together, the two speakers (which are at the tops of the units) end up right next to each other. Any semblance of "stereo" is lost. The "stand" doesn't really work to hold them at the right angle when clipped. August 31, 2012
