To ensure optimum performance, always use cartridges that match your drive's format.
For HP DDS-1 drives, such as the HP SureStore Tape 5000, use only DDS-1 cartridges (4GB capacity, 90-meter, or 2.6GB capacity, 60-meter).
HP DAT drives are backward compatible.
For example, that a DDS-3 drive can read from and write to DDS-1 and DDS-2 tape cartridges. They are not, however, forward compatible — a DDS-1 drive cannot use a DDS-2 cartridge.
