Do Not Buy This!!
I have bought 6 of these locks for my personal and business computers, projector, and other hardware. I had had a really early model and it was great and It always worked for years. I needed to revamp our stock and ordered new locks, but to my surprise they are very very sad! three broke in the first day! The combination would "change" on their own, locks would fall off after being locked!

POOR PRODUCT-- DOES NOT PREVENT THEFT
I purchased this lock to, obviously, protect my laptop against theft. Unfortunately, this lock failed! My laptop was locked and chained to my desk but the thieves were able to rip the lock right out of my laptop! I found the lock, still chained to my desk, with black plastic bits from my laptop around the locking mechanism. The actual laptop was long gone.
I called Targus to inform them of their faulty product and they said it was only a "theft deterrent" and did not prevent against actual theft. They provide no warranty whatsoever for the lock itself or the stolen products.
This lock is a horrible product and DOES NOT PREVENT AGAINST THEFT.

BUYER BEWARE
The lock jams. In fact, the most recent jam required the use of wire cutters and pliers to remove it from my car and my computer. This thing is JUNK!

OK for laptops; bad for desktops
I have used this product on my Apple Powerbook G4. It works fine as long as the lock's body is rotated in a certain position. If it's not in an ideal position, you will have difficulty rotating the numbers for your combination and your lock will not be able to attach or release.
I do not recommend using this item on the newest iMac Aluminum series. When I tried to lock it into the computer, the number dials would not rotate & the locking teeth never connected snugly.
After giving up, I noticed the lock acted as if it forgot my combination. I tried changing the numbers one higher & one lower, but this didn't help. I was hoping Targus would have a backup system to override the combination, but Targus' phone tech support was not able to help.
This is the last laptop combination lock I will buy.
