Realspace Harrington High-Back Bonded Leather Chair, Black 3.3 5 82 82
Get the Warranty! Chair will last about 1 year. Thank goodness I listened to all the reviews and got the extended warranty! As I assumed sooner or later something would break on it. The chair was decent for about 9 months then the seat cushion flattened out. I added a pillow in the seat and the back from lumbar support. Then after a year and a month after purchase the air compression part in the chair gave up so I wasn't able to keep the chair raised. Thank goodness I got the extended warranty as I would have been upset. Office Depot is sending me a gift card of what I paid plus taxes plus the cost of the protection plan to me as a gift card. So I would count on getting the extended warranty and just getting a new chair every year as it *will* give out eventually. Putting together the chair by the way super easy took me less than 20 mins. I am a female and put it together by myself had no problem lining up the bolts and tightening. Please don't pay $200 for the chair. It is not worth it, wait until it chair for goes on sale and use a promo code with it. I was able to get the chair for $103 with a sale and 20% off promo code. With the protection plan ($39.99) and taxes everything came to $153. July 17, 2014
hardest thing i ever put together The chair itself is ok for what it is,it's better than what I had before. However,it took almost 2 hrs to put together!Keep in mind, this chair only has about 12 bolts to install, but getting them all lined up with the corresponding holes is nearly impossible. An exercise in pure aggravation. Difficult to assemble and not very comfortable It took me forever to find "the right" new chair at an affordable price, and I really thought the Harrington was "the one." I am about 6'4" so I was looking for a chair with a higher back. The Harrington is better than my old faux leather chair (which I've rebuilt a few times and had gotten really used to it but it is now failing again). However, this new one seemed much better at the store (I later realized I probably should have just bought the floor model, since it was already "broken-in"). Anyway, this chair was a beast from the moment I tried to get it home. When it came time for the assembly process, fortunately the manufacturer was good with organizing and wrapping the parts, as well as with the simplicity of the written instructions (in English, French and Spanish). But unfortunately, the assembly ended up being quite frustrating and I soon found myself wishing I had paid the few extra dollars to have the Office Depot guys assemble the chair. You would think that a chair with only about 12 parts and 10 Allen wrench type bolts would be fairly easy to assemble, but the trouble came when I had to try to hold up the pieces while attempting to line the bolts up with the pre-threaded holes. The bolts should have been longer to aid with getting them lined up in the holes. You'll need a lamp or flashlight to see into the dark spaces to line them up. Overall chair assembly is only about 7 steps but it took many attempts to get the bolts lined up properly in the holes. I was also finding a lot of scratches and marks on the arms (which seem to be either metal or some kind of heavy plastic) and there were even places where the faux leather wasn't properly installed on the armrests, leaving several burrs and rough edges. I also had problems installing one out of the 5 casters. I had to tighten a metal piece on the caster with needle-nosed pliers to get it to fit in the hole. When it was finally together, and after a lot of grumbling (alcohol or a valium would have helped perhaps), it seemed like the back portion didn't sit properly on the back of the seat cushion like I recall from the store model. I tried to get this to work better while assembling the thing, but it apparently only went on that one way. Now that I'm finally sitting in the chair and using it, the seat seems to have already flattened out (I weight about 200lbs and the chair is rated for 250 by the way). The lower back portion still doesn't feel right and I may have to stick a cushion or towel down there if I keep the thing. I'll contact the manufacturer and ask them about it, though aside from returning it, I don't know what else can be done with it. It would only confirm whether or not there is a problem. And I can't very easily take it back now that it's assembled. The chair was only $149 with tax and marked down from $209. It certainly looks nicer than my last chair and it was a fairly low a price compared with other chairs. And I do like the higher back. But the chair is not really as comfortable as I recall, the assembly was frustrating and the workmanship is sub par. Perhaps the chair will feel better in a few days when my back stops aching from putting the thing together! January 23, 2014
