Very nice and efficient shredder
Bought this shredder in the store. It handles up to 8 sheets very easily and powers right through them. Can run for five minutes straight with no problem. I am using this primarily as a home shredder, and it gets used probably once a day, no more than that. The micro cut is very fine and just what I needed. The shredder sits on wheels that were very easy to snap into place, and the unit rolls easily. The top loading area has a safety function that disables it if you try to overload the shredder or open it too wide. The motor is moderately loud; while not overwhelmingly noisy, I would not describe it as quiet either Finally, the basket is very easy to remove and empty which I felt was a good feature.

Not durable - poor support
I purchased this shredder less than a year ago and have used it very lightly, being careful of sheet capacity and continuous run time. Have only had to empty the bin three or four times in that time. Today it jammed on three sheets. I reversed them out. The green feed light is on, but the cutter won't start. Unplugged it and verified no jam in the cutter assembly or feed slot - let it "rest" for a couple of hours. Still won't work.
Went on the ativa web site for troubleshooting support. This model is not even listed on the site as either a current or discontinued item. Their FAQs and trouble shooting info is generic common sense stuff that anyone who had ever used a shredder would have already tried before looking for help. No way to post a support question. You can only communicate with them by snail mail, or telephone Monday thru Friday.
I don't expect 24/7 immediate product support - but I do expect to be able to at least post a support question 24/7. At this price I also expect this product to be more durable than a cheap strip shredder I could buy at any big box store for a few dollars.

Awesome Shredder, Super Secure Too !
Okay so this thing is so incredibly quiet. I used to be afraid of waking others using my old shredder at home but not anymore. This shredder not only is quiet but it is very smooth operationally. Easy to use. Never even cracked the user manual.
The best part, very, very secure. This thing shreds paper so small that it's impossible for anyone to ever piece anything together. I love this thing and the Protection Plan was only $12.99 plus I got it at $99.99. What a deal ! 2 year warranty ! So I am secure with regards to protecting myself from Identity Theft and I am secure knowing that if my shredder dies I can get my money back or a new shredder assuming it's still being sold.

JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
MY LAST ATIVA LASTED ALMOST FIVE YEARS.NOW WITH MY NEW MDM8000 MICRO-CUT SHREDDER, I HAVE A NEW FRIEND.IT DOES EVERYTHING THAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO.IT IS VERY QUIET AND I LOVE IT'S FEATURE.I DID READ A LOT OF CUSTOMERS REVIEWS
AND I AGREE WITH THEIR REVIEWS.i WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT,YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.
