Cartridge is Good, Printer Does Not Recognize
For all of you who have thrown away a cartridge because your Lexmark software identified the cartridge as empty. The software does not work. It will identify a brand new cartridge as 'not a Lexmark cartridge' even when it is a Lexmark cartridge. Then it will refuse to print in black. You can get around this by setting the printer to 'print in black'. The software is confusing and from what I have read here how the software works may depend on the version/operating system (OS) that you are using. Just find the advanced option that allows you to set the software to print in black. The printer and software will still show the cartridge as empty. Using the color cartridge does not work on my current computer but used to work on an older computer with an older OS. I wasted a few cartridges myself and wanted to share this with others who have the same problem. I like my Lexmark printer but since Lexmark added the 'order toner' option this is a problem. I now refuse to use the 'order toner' option because even when you order directly from Lexmark this happens. The only reason I gave only a 4 star rating is because of the way the printer/software flags the cartridge as empty when it is not empty.

I have had my Lexmark 7600 all in one for just one year. I now have to buy my 2nd black cartridge. Also, my first color. I print in the "DRAFT" formit with no color, most of the time. Maybe some people aren't as thrifty as me. Do not use color, when you do not have to. Use the "draft" most of the time. It is not real black, but if you can read it, that's all you need. USB connection takes a while to print. I use a cable. Change your preferances to "Draft" without color.
It works for me. Try it. When printing a photo, I change preferances. They come out very good.
