D-Link DCS-5222L Pan/Tilt HD Day/Night Network Cloud Camera 5000 2.2 5 12 12
needs amazing firmware update Hardware is nice. Picture is nice, wifi connects fine. Motion capture does not work as intended, or at all in certain configurations. I had to use sound detection, as that was the only reliable detection method I could find. Terrible lag if it connects at all. Reliability has gotten worse with each firmware update. Since almost every aspect of this camera has performed well at least once since I bought it, I think the hardware works well enough. The software has a huge checklist of features, but many don't work. I can't even view the camera most of the time now, from ipad or computer on the same network. 5020 has been much more reliable, with a more modest feature set. Iphone app has been progressing nicely. I keep checking the website hoping for new firmware, as the current release is like a failed beta test. August 21, 2014
No HD Life View in D-link Lite Apps The D-Link lite/ Lite + supported only 480p max resolution!!! what a waste to have this HD cam but cant view it with HD mode in the phone. The web lifeview or or call cloud service also full of bugs. The Java plug in keep pop up asking for permission and lags a lot . August 20, 2014
Buyer Beware!!! Bought 2 cameras but that's because I am in the industry and I can fix a lot of these issues usually with better software thats already freely available. I am currently a software developer and web developer (desktop, phones & tablets) that started out from the ground up in ALL the IT positions and worked my way all the way up to IT Administrator (the "Top Dog" position) Yes, the product did need a firmware update out the box but that is normal. The product did and does work before the firmware update. What sucks is the Java (should have included automatic detection of QuickTime, Flash, Silverlight, and HTML5 video) used in the browser and lag times/lack of responsiveness, no mention of what size micro SD card or max size SD card to use, the data sheet on the website says an installation CD comes with the product, it does not and one is NOT needed, one of the datasheets on the website appears to be a copy and paste as the model number is different in one of the descriptions (yeah, I've done that before too!), too close to electrical wires and/or other electronics using the same GHz range may interfere with range/signal quality (better sheilding), having to register with Dlink to access the video and settings from home is Bull$hi! (is needed for remote viewing though), no way to search previously recorded video on micro SD card for other dates and times other than for that day, time format is military (24hr format), iPhone app moves camera to another view different from what you are seeing from the web browser view, this is just sloppy organization and design. The product itself appears to be of nice quality, though I prefer black plastic casing as oppose to the white for my garage. All in all, I like the product itself but the software and items listed above need to be and can be fixed easily. As a software developer I know code can be placed in the firmware like on your router at home as to eliminate the need to register with Dlink though that is needed for remote viewing while away from your home, iSpy software does a better job with the camera, fix/ repair the complaints listed above and its actually a very nice product. Funny thing is, this is fixable in the firmware, unless the engineers used all the memory in the firmware then they need to supply the micro SD card and use (partition) some of it's memory, kind of like what Microsoft does with the XBOX, system & software updates use the storage on YOUR hard drive taking away room for games and other items. No need to re-manufacture or re-engineer. Just update the firmware/code. August 7, 2014
Slow camera that run outdated software and is hard to install. I work as an IT pro but after hours I am not nere the experience that is promised on the box. Half the screen is violet. The software can only be run with the right version of Java in your browser. Who uses java applets in browsers now adays on mac and windows? The tilt and pan is so slow and lags so much that it cant be controlled. I had to upgrade the firmware on the machine out of the box to be able to access it from the java applet in the browser. To acces all the hardcore settings you all of sudden change to an oldschool website application with quicktime. (no responsive design instead it has a tag in header to : IE=EmulateIE7). The first part of webapp with java I never got to show live video on Safari but the quicktime app worked in chrome So I could see live video. The windows phone app that is recommend does not seem to be rec by its user Lots of angry one stars. I downloaded it and tried it. It works better after the firmware upgrade on camera but still the sounds only works sometimes. The tilt and pan does not work in any practical manner. The presets camera posistion cant be accessed from the windows phone app. It could be that this camera is actually great if you use other software or write it your self. It has nigthvision and motion detection. I am going to try to hook it up with my Synology NAS software. I already hava a Panasonic camera hooked up to the NAS. I just thought that this camera would be more consumer friendly and less tinkery needed. But imho it needs a lot of extra effort to make it work. Would not recommend to grandpa. August 3, 2014

Answer:
We thank you for your feedback. Once the mounting plate has been attached to the wall or ceiling, you should be able to press and fit the camera up into the base mounted plate, matching the mounting slots, and then slowly twist the camera to lock it into place within the mounting base plate. If you need further assistance please contact D-Link technical support at www.dlink.com/support. Thank you for being a D-Link customer.

Answer:
As long as your internet or wireless connection to the camera is stable and does not encounter any interference the DCS-5222L should not time out and reset. The camera generally will reset if it loses connectivity to either its network connectivity or power source.
