Elegant Hutch The hutch adds elegance to the home office on top of the desk. Though assembly took a long time, the finished product is beautiful. We couldn't be happier with our purchase. August 17, 2014
Heritage Hill Paper laminated press board. It looks good & is easy to put together if you follow the directions properly. It is easily scratched of damaged. July 23, 2011
MORE LAMINATED CARDBOARD No where in the description of this product does it say laminated cardboard yet the ENTIRE BACK of this hutch is just that. The description says it is engineered wood and I expected that on every piece. The rest of the piece actually looks great. Every piece was included, everything arrived in great condition, but I would have NEVER purchased this product if I would have know there was no solid back for the entire piece. Give me a break, seriously, laminated cardboard???? August 22, 2009
Nice for the money, but poor quality The reason I would still recommend this to a friend is because it's relatively inexpensive and still looks good. My biggest gripe is that it was missing a hinge and some screws. I called the company and they send replacements out quickly. It has a lot of shelving and the color is nice. However, the workmanship is poor. One of the sides is 1 inch too short, so it does not lay flush on my desk. Also, the back piece is flimsy cardboard and doesn't align properly. I had to do some creative fixing with some black electrical tape to hide the gaps. June 5, 2009

i don't want to put the hutch together unless I understand it attaches well and is not "flimsy" in the attachment.

The Credenza Hutch attaches directly above the Credenza. It does so in 2 ways. There are 4 plastic angle brackets that sustain the front of the 4 suppport beams to the Hutch. In addition there are 2 metal braces that are attached with screws on the outermost edges of the back of the Credenza and Hutch that ensure the 2 do not separate.

Answer:
The hutch upright panels are support panels. Removing the support panels would compromise the integrity of the unit as well as void the warranty. Sauder does not recommend removing the uprights to enlarge the size of the monitor area.

I only have room in my office for the desk, not a credenza and hutch and the hutch would give me added space on the desk. Is there anyway to add this to the desk and it be safe? I need additional desk space but don't have room for additional furniture.

Answer:
The latest health and safety information currently available indicates that the presence of formaldehyde in the amounts typically found in our products, should not cause a health risk. Nevertheless, we know there is a great deal of concern and confusion about formaldehyde, and we will try to explain this situation as best as we can.

We meet strict regulations limiting the amount of allowable formaldehyde. We are in compliance with the California law regulating formaldehyde emissions from particleboard. This law, established by the California Air Resources Board (CARB)* has the objective of lowering the emissions of formaldehyde from particleboard to a level close to the background levels of formaldehyde found to occur naturally in wood. This makes it one of the strictest regulations in the world regarding this issue.
Sauder Woodworking Co. adopted this regulation for all of its products - not just those bound for California. You can identify our compliance to the CARB regulation by the label on the end of our box. This label not only signals our compliance, but also provides the information that allows us to trace the source of our board back to the mills that produced it. Those mills are third-party certified to meet the new formaldehyde standard. CARB itself approves the certifying bodies.

The other important factor is that there is only a limited amount of formaldehyde that can be emitted from the product. Once it escapes ? it is gone. For the vast majority of people, the issue amounts to a temporary odor, and no risk of a health issue. (This also applies to other materials that cause odors from a new product.)
