Slides
Contrary to a previous review the drawers can be removed once they are slid into the metal slides. Pull the drawer all the way out while supporting the base so it won't tip over. Find the slides on each side. Look for a thin plastic piece in the middle of the slide. Either push or pull depending on which side you are on. One side goes down and the other pulls up and will unlock the slide so you can remove the drawer. I admit it does fall apart easily if you try to move it. I received one that someone was getting rid of and when I moved it the thing did fall apart. I was able to glue and screw it back together and it looks like it might hold for a while. I don't know how to fit the thin metal strip in the drawer though for the hanging files. They didn't have a key or instructions and the web site doesn't show an internal view.

Returning today
Worst thing first: after 2 1/2 hours of assembly time, discovered that must use "bracket" to screw to stud in wall. "Bracket" is 5" piece of nylon webbing that is supposed to be screwed in to back of cabinet and then screwed into stud ABOVE the cabinet making it obviously and tackily visable. Had read instructions up to where it appeared to be finished and didn't turn page to see "bracket" installation necessity. Something is necessary since any weight at all in either or both drawers causes cabinet to tip over when opened.

difficult to assemble, fell apart during a move
I've assembled quite a lot of self-assembly furniture in the past ten years, and this one was the most poorly designed I've ever seen. There's one part where you're expected to slide the back piece through slots in the side pieces - well they don't slide together that smoothly at all and really requires a second person to hold the thing together while the first person jiggles things into place. I didn't have a second person, never needed one for any of the previous things I've assembled. By the time I managed to cobble it together by myself, other parts had worked themselves loose, and one of the top corners never did hold together very well.
Then there's the drawers. The metal sliders are not designed in a way to allow removing the drawers from the housing after being put in, which seems like a pretty basic, crucial feature of anything that comes with drawers in it especially if it's made of wood. This makes it much more difficult (and heavy) to move the (full) file cabinet later.
Well, to no surprise really, the whole thing came apart when I *did* have to move it to a different state later. And because of the way the metal sliders are designed, even though all the individual pieces are still in good condition, there is no real way to RE-assemble the thing with the drawers back in place.
