HP 950XL/951 Black/Color Original Ink Cartridges (C2P01FNM) 4.6 5 165 168
HP 950XL Black Color Cartriges I would recommend to any one who has this model HP machine. For otherwise it will not work. Otherwise, i think the ink is pricy for the amount included in each cartridge. December 15, 2014
Am impressed so far I've been using an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 for about 4 months and am happy so far with the ink consumption. The past HP's I have used guzzled ink but I was persuaded to give this printer a try and, sure, enough, the ink does last. I print a lot and have been pleasantly surprised that these cartridges go a long way. Plus, they are indivudual - I can swap out one color at a time, as opposed to the tri-color cartridge. And the ink color print out is pretty true to my screen colors :) Happy camper now. December 15, 2014
Good value I like the cartridges because they are easy to install and mess free; however, the life on these cartridges are short. The cost for the pack, black and the colors is a good value as well. December 11, 2014
Consistent quality The product is great, but I had to settle for the combination pack to get the color cartridges I really wanted. I tried to order the color cartridges separately as the XL versions, but one color was out of stock at the store where I wanted to pick up. I was out of color, so I had to buy the combo pack which was not my preference. I had a $20 off coupon for paying with PayPal online and had to forfeit using it because of the out-of-stock problem. It was my first experience with Office Depot online and I may not ever use the online service again. December 9, 2014

A BIG difference! You get a lot more copies with the x-tra large cartridge.
It's worth the extra cost.

Answer:?
HP950 should last for a duty cycle of 1000 pages and the HP950XL should last for 2500 pages. Of course there is a price difference too (ha ha). If you do not use your printer that often, I would recommend using the HP950 because once the package is open the ink starts its life environmental life cycle and could dry up before utilizing its ink duty cycle.

Hello Joyce, The difference is, HP950 is the regular amount of ink in a cartridge where as HP950XL is the Extra Large amount in each cartridge . I do lots of printing and the Extra Large amount take my printing a very long way before I need to replace them.

Answer:?
Yes, you can still print, however, some colors may appear somewhat faded. It usually takes black ink to print the colors . Just try and see what happens. That's what I usually do., and sometimes, you can just keep on printing without replacing the empty cartridge.

Answer:?
If it's a color cartridge, you can choose to print in black ink only on most of the newer HP printers. If you run out of black, printer won't print. I always keep ink on hand because this happens when in an important job.

Answer:?
Yes! Just leave the old dried up cartridge in the printer. The printer should ask you if you want to print with color vs. black. If your printer does not offer this suggestion, then go to the settings and make appropriate adjustments to print with other colors vs. ink that is dried out.

This would depend on what HP Printer you are using these HP Ink Cartridges in. The function would be a printer function not a cartridge function, not all HP Printers will have this printer function.

I understand there is approx double the amount of ink in an XL cartridge. My question is - Is the physical size of the cartridge the same between a 'regular' cartridge and an XL cartridge?
Thanks.

No, the XL cartridge is physically larger than the regular cartridge. If you do a lot printing, the XL cartridge is a more economical option.

Answer:?
In the "Properties", then "advanced" section of your printing preferences you can change your printing to gray scale, and if you usually print only black gray scale can be your default. In my experience, the color does eventually run out even if you are doing this but this takes much longer. Once the color ink cartridges have run out, the printer will usually ask you if you only want to print in black. This tone of black is not as clear a tone however, and be prepared for your black ink to run out more quickly than usual. Eventually it will stop allowing you to print.

One can probably find a source for a case of both color and black ink but one must remember the shelf-life of the cartridges is limited. Over time the ink can dry and block the ink jets.

Answer:?
Yes, all printers can make black out of the colored ink. As to which is the cheapest, that depends entirely on what you are printing and the quality and has less to do with the printer itself.

Answer:?
Yes, the rep is correct in saying all HP printers will use color to make black. But the black is not as black or as saturated at the black produced by combining magenta, yellow and cyan. The black produced by a color cartridge is like gray. That is the reason a black cartridge is needed to produce a deep black.
