Reasonable price but compromised quality The design of the bookcase and the optional drawers and door sets are very modern. The bookcase itself is not hard to assemble. But getting the door assembled to the bookcase can be tricky. If you do not have enough experience in screwing a screw-hole into a particle board (even with a pre-fixed openning), you might find yourself in big trouble. The nature of the particle board makes it very hard to right the wrong when you screw in the door hinge with a mistake. If you incidently applies the force at a wrong angle, your screw will go in at bad angle and it might not hold the hinge correctly. There is almost no easy way to remedy this kind of mistake. You can repair the screw-hole by inserting one or two matches and have them adhered with wood glue and then try again. Some people also tried with some success with steelwool. When all else fail, you just have to remove both doors so that the unit still look good with the top two drawers and the open shelves at the lower side (This was what happened with me). The drawers are not difficult to put in, but the sliders are not that great in quality. There are also a big variation in quality in the two sets of the drawers I received. One set is great, the other is much more compromised in material and color (instead of the beautiful woodgrain appearance, the poorer set has a greyish and not wood-like appearance and the sliders do not fit as well so that the drawers are harder to slide in or out smoothly. Even the better set of drawers do not slide freely. The merit of the overall design which I like most is the depth - 16 inch (versus many bookcases that are only 12-inch) and that the full width being 36 inch is also a great feature. I bought 8 sets and put 4 sets in a row in my study room. They do look great. But because I made a simple screwhole mistake, I have one set that I cannot put back one door. The best deal is just to use the bookcase itself. It is sturdy and has a nice adjustable base at the corners. The frame is made of 1-inch thick particle board which makes it look so strong and appealing. I had higher expectations in the beginning when I saw that the product was made in Denmark instead of China. But beware of the quality. I think as time goes by, the door hinges will start to come out if you do not treat them lightly. September 29, 2014
Fits well with the bookcase Not sure if it's the instructions or the screws supplied, I could not assemble the door hinges as instructed. Two types of screws were required per hinge, but one of them wouldn't fit. I repositioned the one that fits thanks to the redundant holes, and the hinge appears reasonably secured. The redundant holes on the part may be a blessing or curse since it makes the parts harder to figure out. The drawer rail does not slide smoothly. The holes for the door handle is not drilled through. I don't have a drill, but I used a wood screw to puncture a hole which worked. Once assembled, the kit complements the shelf very nicely in function and style. August 18, 2013
Nice addition to the matching bookcases I bought 5 of these to go along with 3 of the 6 shelf bookshelves and 2 of the 4 shelf book shelves. These are a very nice addition to the shelves. The only con to these is that the instructions have pictures only. It was not a problem for me, but it may be for others. A note, if you buy these with the shelves, I recommend taking the time and opening both the shelves and the door/drawer kit. Install all of the hardware for the doors/drawers on the book shelf before putting the shelving together. It is much easier to install that way. I put the first two shelves together then installed the door/drawer kit. Took longer and was more work. February 11, 2011

Answer:
Yes, I am doing that right now because the door hinge is hard to screw in correctly and I messed up one hinge. The top two drawers can still be left in place. The overall look is still fine. I gather that you can do the opposite too by just putting in the doors but not installing the drawers. However, be careful to make sure that you can position one of the shelf board such that it becomes the 'ceiling' of the doors. I am not sure if there is a perfect position so that you will see no gap.
