Rated 4 out of 5by jeanluchayes Great Product For the Price Point
I'm 17 years old at the time I put together this desk, and also at the time I am writing this review.
I've Used A Basic 32 inch desk for probably 5-7 years now, and it was very sturdy. However, it broke recently as I tried to move it as I was rearranging my room. It was silly of me to do this, but I also knew that I needed a new desk.
This Desk right here is probably the best purchase I have ever made, in sense of furniture. It is sturdy, high quality, and very easy to put together. I've read almost all the reviews posted here. The wood is a nice dark cherry color, and the wood will not bend easily, you need much force to do so - but it does scratch easily, however, I knew at this price point, I would deal with it.
In the Process of Building
Like I said before, this desk is easy to put together. I have read many reviews of people saying the instructions are difficult - but come on - If a 17 Year old can do it - it's not that hard. The pictures are very high quality - just pay attention to where the holes are on the wood, or you could put the screws in the wrong holes. The metal screw heads that they use to bind the wood closer together is very easy to insert, and will last. Also, the bag of materials is not just jumbled up, each step in the instructions corresponds to a piece of the bag that you can open up individually, so if you're worried about the assembly being difficult and about losing screws - trust me, you won't!
Thoughts on other Reviews
I'm sure that i have read almost every review on this product on officedepot, as I search all of the internet before I purchase anything, and two thing that i thing people need to understand about this product is that: 1). For the price point it is gorgeous - although it scratches easily, as long as you don't purposefully jab it with a sharp object like a screwdriver or another piece of the same wood, you will be good. 2). Many people on here have urged the fact that you need two people - well, this I can say from experience is partly true. Again, I'm 17 years old, and I assembled the whole desk by myself without any help, but days later my body ached like I pulled something in my arms and legs. The Desk comes in 2 Boxes, the less heavy one that I picked up with relative ease, and the really heavy one that i had to open outside and bring in each piece individually because I couldn't carry the whole box. So - I do recommend two people to help you with this desk - it will help. One more thing - many people have said that it takes 8 hours or even two days two complete this desk - I can tell you that i still don't believe that one bit, unless they really took it slow. I worked at a normal pace by myself, and finished the entire U-Desk in 4 hours max. I'm not kidding, that even includes the time I spent opening the boxes and laying out all the pieces. I started at 10AM, and finished around 2PM. So, it won't take that long - trust me.
This item doesn't come with the hutch, so I Bought it separately, which I advise, because it makes the setup look so much more professional - and you also get so much more space to put your books, items, or office supplies in drawers. (One drawer locks by the way).
The Deal I Received
I purchased this desk mostly because it was on sale, and my maximum spending was about 500$.(I did buy this with my own money). However, the normal price for this desk is 360$, and for the hutch, I believe it is 160$. If you can see, if you add those up, that is 520$, and plus shipping, already more than my budget could allow.
I got these items on sale: 270$ for the desk, and 120$ for the hutch. I advise - if you already like this desk, maybe wait a bit to see if the deal that i received will come back. At the moment I am writing this review, the Desk is 320$, and the Hutch is 120$.
Again, this is probably the best purchase I've ever made, especially for the price point. If people tell you it has some faults, always know that this isn't the 1000 - 3000$ U-desks made of pure wood or by some high name brand like Bestar. However, never expect less - other than the wood being prone to scratching, this is a sturdy, beautiful, and well put together U-desk for the Price. Also, remember that this is laminate particle board.
I rate it 4 stars - just because it scratches easily. Other than that very, very minor point - you should purchase this U-desk by all means. Check out the pictures as well.

Rated 5 out of 5by Jmartriano Very nice
Easy to follow instructions , I did this solo and the most time consuming thing was the drawers. Also lifting up some of the heaviest pieces is not that easy of a task but can be done by yourself. It took around 4-5 hours to do myself as I had to make room for this huge desk and then start. If you do buy online try to get it in store pick up for it. It was costing around $70 alone for just shipping because it's just heavy pieces. It is split into two boxes also one can fit into your backseat while the other is pretty big and your either going to have to use a truck or a Car with collapsible seats to fit the other one

What else can I say. Would definitely buy again! We bought 2 of these and were pleasantly surprised that you have the option of left or right hand desk during the assembly process, that wasn't mentioned on the website! So we were able to mirror the desks, a nice option indeed!

Rated 5 out of 5by GoPSULions Great desk - have realistic expectations
This is at least my 7th computer/office desk over the years, so I will rate this based upon past experiences as well.
First, and most important, I am rating this desk 5 stars as it is a great desk for the price. This is not a solid wood desk. It is laminated particleboard which you must assemble yourself. There will be minor imperfections - like some potential dings, or see some unused holes after assembly. If you expectations are comparing this to a solid wood desk, which can cost $1000+, then this isn't the product for you.
First, this is a big desk. Perfect for me, but before purchase, make sure to measure out that it will fit well in your location. It comes in 2 boxes, with the longer one just over 6'. So if picking up, make sure it will fit. They loaded it for me (take 2 to do so) and when I got home, I was able to slide out and lower on an angle myself, but 2 people would be best.
This is very well engineered. You have two options on the build - with the desk section with the drawers on the left of the U or the right. The instructions for each option start on different pages. To allow for this flexibility, some parts will have more holes than are used, so there are mirror images holes available. So some of these will not be used.
The parts are the best organized I have seen on one of these products. Each step has its own packet of parts. No more searching though some huge pile of parts in search for the correct ones needed for this step - especially when there are multiple parts that are similar. Also, because of the two build options, the packets will have two numbers on them - like Step 5 or 39.
The manual has very little text and relies upon diagrams for instruction. All parts have stickers on them (well a couple had fallen off, but easy to deduce which they were based upon all the rest).
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - The pictures are really quite clear, but you must take your time and look at them. The diagram will show the orientation of the part(s), and you can match this up based upon the location/number/types of holes. Take your time and make sure you set you piece to match the orientation of the diagram, so you will put the parts in the correct location. Because of the two build options there will be pieces that have unused holes. So again, take your time.
I assembled this on my own (I am 57) and was fine. Some steps could be easier with 2. You will want 2 to move it when finally done. It will take a while. I think it was just over 3 hours to unpack, move the pieces and assemble. Again, don't rush it.
My only negative, and it is small, is I wish the keyboard drawer had an option to mount under one of the long desk sections. For my work, I like my monitor to be on the long desk section. So I will buy a keyboard drawer and mount myself.
Love the desk. Also purchased the hutch unit, which I also assembled in the 2nd option, which is great. This provides me lots of room, is very sturdy and looks great. Again, you can't compare this to a solid wood desk, so don't. This was the best engineered one of these units I have had to date. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
