A really comfortable affordable chair
I really need something that is gonna be comfortable and adjustable for my editing suite. This chair is adjustable and the mesh back and seat keep things cool.

I like this chair, but ...
This chair is nicely constructed and easy to assemble. However, I wish it would raise higher. The problem is that you sit on a mesh seat, and you will sit lower than expected. The chair is not high enough even at the highest setting. I'm only 5'9 and 175lbs. I can't see how anyone bigger than that could use this chair properly.
So at the highest setting and sitting in it, my seat is only about 17" above the ground (remember, your seat will sink because of the mesh). Ergonomically, that's where it should be for someone 5'9", but I actually prefer it to be around 18".
Because you do sink into the seat, raising the arm rests would be pointless. The are at the proper position when placed at the lowest position. Raising them higher would be uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, I think I will have to return this. Should have spent more time in the store testing the seat. If it could raise another inch higher, it might be a keeper ... Or maybe I can find another gas lift (longer one) to put into the seat.

The most comfortable chair I have ever owned
Almost 3 years ago, my office chair started to break down and it was time to get a new chair. My biggest complaint, about my old chair, was that after hours of sitting in it, my back and rear would get extremely sweaty. During the summer months I would actually build up a heat rash.
So, when I went to look for a new chair, I knew right away I needed a mesh chair. When I started to look online, for mesh chairs, it became evident that most of them would be out of my bosses price range.
I finally found the Quantum 9000 and figured I would give it a shot. I must admit that it is the most comfortable chair I have ever owned, and here's why:
1. My rear and back stay nice and cool, I am no longer sweaty at the end of the day
2. The chair has enough adjustments to make it comfortable for any size of a person. I am 6'3", 250lbs, and this chair works amzing for me. My wife is 5' 7" and she is able to adjust the chair to her liking
3. The chair is very durable. I bought my first one (my old boss did), almost 3 years ago and the chair was still like brand new.
The chair is so comfortable that, when I quit my job and started to work for myself from home, it was the only chair that made me happy. So, I had to buy one for my home office as well.
The chair took me about 15 minutes to assemble with the provided tool.
P.S. In the 3 years I owned the chair, I never had to check the bolts or have any issues with anything coming loose. I am, however, now going to start checking the bolts every 6 months, as it is recommended by the manufacturer.
Lastly, the chair is very nice looking. Being all black, it fits into any color decor and the styling is very modern.

Mesh Ergonomic Chair
I am a Safety Professional and bought this chair and am very pleased with all the adjustments it can make. This chair has adjustment featues of much more expensive chairs. The chair is very comfortable and the adjustments make it easier to fit the person to the chair.

Answer:
Thank you for your question! The RealspacePRO Quantum/9000 chair is designed and manufactured to support body weight up to 250 pounds.
To help gauge fit based on your height, we recommend visiting a store and sitting in the chair. Take a few minutes to work the adjustment features also (especially chair height, seat back height & angle, lumbar support, and chair arm height & width). That way you can best determine if the adjustability ranges fit your body.
Best wishes!

I noticed while testing this chair in the store several months ago that when I sat down or got up from the chair, just brushing against the back of it with my back impacted the ratcheted height. Did you ever install a knob to lock the back position in place or is there a way to adjust the ratchet system so it's not so sensitive? Having to constantly readjust the back height would be a bothersome.

Answer:
I just bought this chair and am having the same problem. When I move around or get up, the back moves up, which unlocks it, and then it falls down to the lowest position. I am constantly having to raise it back up.I am tall (6' 2") so I like the back in the highest position--the 5th click up. Which is another problem: I can't simply slide the back all the way up to adjust it, because all the way up is the release position and it slides back down. Instead, I have to carefully count 1-2-3-4-5 clicks to get it to the 5th position. This wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to do this every time I got up and sat back down.
Hopefully there's a trick--or the manufacturer can come up with a better way to lock the back in place.

Answer:
Thanks for your question. The chair back typically stays firmly in place while seated.
One idea is that you may need a bigger or more heavy duty chair.
The Quantum chair supports body weight up to 250 pounds.
If you weigh more, you will be more comfortable and supported in a big & tall chair.

Your height is fine. The seat will slide back and forward to accomodate your height. And of course it'll raise and lower.I'm 6'1", 200# and the chair fits me just about perfectly. It's got a tag that says it's only good up to 250#. I think you'd find it too thin across and the fact it's just a mesh seat, not firm with foam would probably be a problem for weights over 250#.

Can I adjust the back tilt and seat tilt independently? Also, are both infinitely adjustable or are there only a few fixed tilts?
I tried one in the store (without any directions) and it seemed that both tilted at the same time, so I couldn't tilt the back without tilting the seat, etc. Also, I could only get it to lock in a few positions--level, and tilted back.

Realspace Product Support:Thank you for the quick answer. I bought the chair but I can't get the back tilt to infinitely adjust. When I loosen the Tilt Lockout handle, the back does tilt to any position. But when I lock it, it snaps in one of only three positions. Am I doing something wrong or is that the way it is designed?

Answer:
I just bought this chair so I can now answer my own question, for the benefit of anyone interested:Unfortunately, the back and seat do not tilt independently. The "synchro tilt" feature means the seat tilts back a little as the back tilts back. Worse, there are only 3 positions: back near vertical, back slightly tilted back, and back tilted way back. (With seat tilting at the same time). If one of the first two positions fits you, it's great. But if you need a slightly different position for the best ergonomic fit, you are out of luck.

According to the CPSC website, the Quantum Realspace PRO? 9000 Series Mid-Back Multifunction Mesh Chair, SKU # 510830 was recalled because the bolts attaching the seatback on the chair can loosen and detach, posing a fall and injury hazard to consumers.
I'm wondering if this is the same chair, or if they have fixed the design flaw?
Thanks!

While this is the same chair and model, the flaw has been repaired and only applied to chairs manufactured from May 2006 through August 2009. You can check your chair's date of manufacture by looking at the label under the seat cushion near the front on the label showing manufacture date, manufacturer's model ID and says QUANTUM. If the date falls into the recall range, contact Office Depot customer service.Age:55 to 64

Answer:
The tension spring is an extremely strong spring. While I have had no problems adjusting the tension, I would recommend you try to loosen the tension with at least 5 or 6 turns (a turn being the amount you can move the knob with one hand and one effort, not necessarily a full revolution). You should not be sitting with any force being applied to the seat back while making the adjustments. Do this 2 or 3 times or until you notice some easing of the tilt function. I hope this helps and when adding more tension, be prepared to use a lot of strength to turn the knob.Gender:Male
