I really like my 8600. I really like my 8600. One of the features I really like is that the cartridges are the same ones used on the 8100, my higher speed color inkjet printer. The other thing is that when a cartridge runs out of ink, the printing stops, and you get a message that one of the cartridges is out of ink. No wasted paper and no wasted ink from the other cartridges. The 8100 works the same way and its great. July 22, 2014
Love this product This machine was unbelievably easy to set up. I made one call to HP and found out I had downloaded the software only partially customer service rep talked me through the uninstall and reinstall process because I don't allow remote access on my computer. After that everything was a breeze. I have yet to have a problem that has not been answered in the user guide. My only complaint is that Ihis machine does not qualify for the HP instant ink program, but I was given the number for "sure supply" that I can save money on ink with according to a support rep from HP. duplex scanning inoperable This was the 3rd printer I had in my possession that could not perform the duplex scanning function. Very very disappointing. July 15, 2014
Disappointing Printer I had heard good things from an HP worker whose wife was using a pre-production prototype of this printer. My OfficeJet 8500 had become unreliable (it was never a very good printer), and I had high hopes I would like this printer. But unfortunately I cannot recommend it to anyone for the following reasons: - wireless printing is at best unreliable (despite adequate "bars", the printer frequently loses communication) - wireless printing and ePrint were not straightforward to set up (it should have been, but the instructions were not accurate for this printer) - paper handing (a bane of the 8500) is still iffy with this printer (especially with card stock) - printing is streaky even in normal mode (I should not have to always use best mode to get a decent print) - the case is even more flimsy than the Office 8500 (this is not a performance issue, but I do like panels to line up) I can address all of these, but it's a pain to have to help my wife print half of the time because of the network issues with this printer. And while I might expect draft mode to be sometimes streaky, I should NEVER see this in normal printing mode. To add to all of this a continuing issue with paper handling makes me question my decision to buy another HP printer after my problems with my OfficeJet 8500. July 9, 2014

    Answer:
You can hook this up by USB or wirerless. You do not need wifi for it to work wirelessly. That is only necessary to send a message straight to it like it has its own email address. I use mine wirelessly just cause I like the convence. You do have to hook the wire up the first time to configure it though so it will work with out the wire.

    Answer:
You can look up the user guide online at hp.com. I did that -- it's an issue for me also -- and you have to pull the tray out, remove all the paper, load envelopes, move the paper guides to the envelope width, replace the tray, and then print. Huge pain! I have a similar printer at work, but I don't have to remove the tray, I just lift the tray lid. I hate it!

    Answer:
HP, you didn't fully answer hawkeye's question. Is the machine capable of scanning multiple documents, not just multiple pages, but documents placed on the flatbed if needed, plus more than one document placed successively in the ADF, and say another from the flatbed--all going into ONE SINGLE PDF? Your answer sounds like the maximum scanned pages is 35 done all at once from the ADF. Is this correct? Or, will a 105 page document, input max 35 pages at a time--three times, result in ONE SINGLE PDF? Can scanning be done alternately between flatbed and ADF to result in ONE SINGLE PDF?

the information "The printer can operate with one or more depleted cartridges. However, printing with depleted cartridges slows the printer and affects the quality of printed documents. If the black cartridge is depleted, blacks are not as dark. If a color cartridge is depleted, output is in grayscale."
is quoted from the printer help function...

but in my experience today - even when settings are "print only black ink", when one of the color cartridges is empty the printer *will not* actually let you print, despite the information in the help file.

    Not good.

I have not found a solution for this... would sure like to know it!

I am printing on mine from laptops using Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and my iPhone. There is an HP ePrint app you have to download to the iPad. This machine also utilizes the HP email print from anywhere option. You create your own e-mail address ending in @email.hp.eprintcenter.com. Then, you can send or forward e-mails to this address. The e-mail and any attachments will print out on the printer. Hope this helps!
