    HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-In-One Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax 4.2 5 781 782
Nice printer I have had the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium for a few weeks now. It includes, extra "Color" ink, scanning software and has larger paper capacity. I own a "Pro 8600" and now a Pro 8600 Premium, replacing an older Officejet 7400. The scanning software has nice 2 way scanning communication - can start / control scan from laptop or at the printer and good scanning features. Did have one hang up in printing, had a software lock up when the printer ran out of paper, fix was to reinstall the printer software. Have not tried the remote printing from Smartphone. Chose the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium, which is no longer available in local stores over the newer models as this appears to have more features and a slightly reduced price. Ink is pricey. I have not had the issues mentioned in some on-line reviews. August 6, 2014
Very easy to setup & configure Purchased to replace a network laserjet printer. The setup & configuration process and instructions were very easy to follow. It connected to two PC's and a MacBook without any issues and I can even print wirelessly from both my iPad and iPhone. The print quality is very good and scanner function works well. August 2, 2014
slow startup :(... but lovin' my 8600 now :) ! I expected "plug&play"....like all my other HP experiences, however my 8600-N911n would not initially bootup. After 4-6hrs, 35-40 painstaking procedural 'by the book' turn-on's, & 3techs laboriously trying to resolve the problem (3d tech was actually starting the process to ship me a replacement) the 8600 mysteriously booted and has since been operating flawlessly. Except for the initial unresolved startup mystery, I find the features, performance and value of this printer perfectly matched for my small business and its companion HP Pavilion20 TouchSmart PC. July 22, 2014
I really like my 8600. I really like my 8600. One of the features I really like is that the cartridges are the same ones used on the 8100, my higher speed color inkjet printer. The other thing is that when a cartridge runs out of ink, the printing stops, and you get a message that one of the cartridges is out of ink. No wasted paper and no wasted ink from the other cartridges. The 8100 works the same way and its great. July 22, 2014

    Answer:
You can hook this up by USB or wirerless. You do not need wifi for it to work wirelessly. That is only necessary to send a message straight to it like it has its own email address. I use mine wirelessly just cause I like the convence. You do have to hook the wire up the first time to configure it though so it will work with out the wire.

    Answer:
You can look up the user guide online at hp.com. I did that -- it's an issue for me also -- and you have to pull the tray out, remove all the paper, load envelopes, move the paper guides to the envelope width, replace the tray, and then print. Huge pain! I have a similar printer at work, but I don't have to remove the tray, I just lift the tray lid. I hate it!

    Answer:
HP, you didn't fully answer hawkeye's question. Is the machine capable of scanning multiple documents, not just multiple pages, but documents placed on the flatbed if needed, plus more than one document placed successively in the ADF, and say another from the flatbed--all going into ONE SINGLE PDF? Your answer sounds like the maximum scanned pages is 35 done all at once from the ADF. Is this correct? Or, will a 105 page document, input max 35 pages at a time--three times, result in ONE SINGLE PDF? Can scanning be done alternately between flatbed and ADF to result in ONE SINGLE PDF?

the information "The printer can operate with one or more depleted cartridges. However, printing with depleted cartridges slows the printer and affects the quality of printed documents. If the black cartridge is depleted, blacks are not as dark. If a color cartridge is depleted, output is in grayscale."
is quoted from the printer help function...

but in my experience today - even when settings are "print only black ink", when one of the color cartridges is empty the printer *will not* actually let you print, despite the information in the help file.

    Not good.

I have not found a solution for this... would sure like to know it!

I am printing on mine from laptops using Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and my iPhone. There is an HP ePrint app you have to download to the iPad. This machine also utilizes the HP email print from anywhere option. You create your own e-mail address ending in @email.hp.eprintcenter.com. Then, you can send or forward e-mails to this address. The e-mail and any attachments will print out on the printer. Hope this helps!
