Serves its purpose
A great inexpensive desktop scanner. Problem free with good support from Brother.

Could be better
Does a nice job of copying but doesn't always feed straight, especially on smaller items like credit card receipts. Too bad you have to manually start the associated program before feeding documents. Would be better if putting document in feed slot automatically invoked the program. Anti-intuitive to have to feed documents face-down.

Very Pleased!
I had seen the recent television ads for portable scanners and checked Office Depot online to see if they had similar products. I purchased the Brother handheld (based on the reviews) and am delighted with the product. It is easier to use than my large scanner and has been very helpful in organizing my papers. The scanner is not just for receipts; it copies business cards as well as regular-sized documents, which can be fed right into the scanner. The included software is extremely useful and the scanner is very lightweight. This is a very worthwhile purchase, especially for the price.

Returned mine
I bought this to scan a bunch of photos, some of which are odd in size. First, the DVD could not be read. Not a huge problem, I was able to download the driver from Brother's website. But the Presto software was not available from the website. Then when we started to scan, we realized that a) it was thinking that every photo was 8.5 x 11, b) you can select standard photo sizes but not odd ones; the scanner won't automatically detect paper size, c) we could make the scanner recognize the end of the page, but not the width, d) photos were feeding crooked, and e) we were still getting black bars even with the unskew and autocrop features enabled.
My father in law has a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 that has none of these problems, automatically detects the document size, and is faster! Only reason I didn't buy that one in the first place is because it's not available locally, need to buy it online.
