I wanted to like this All-In-One
I reviewed this All-In-One elsewhere shortly after I purchased it in 2011 and was very pleased with everything about it. As time went on, I discovered that the machine was regularly cleaning the ink cartridges (which uses ink), though I could see no reason why. After speaking to Brother, they said there was no way to turn this setting off - placing the machine in standby mode doesn't deter it either; it checks the heads daily at 12:00PM regardless.
I infrequently print so it is frustrating to see the ink levels drop though the MFC-J430w has seen little to no use.
Unfortunately I am now afraid to purchase other Brother products as I had planned. I've decided I will be going back to my old Epson as soon as this round of cartridges is dry.

Chart Printing
Thus far it seems to be doing what I expected. I needed a printer that would print out candlestick stock charts for further analysis over time. So it serves my purposes and the added feature of being able to use it as scanner and fax machine was just a bonus. Essentially I was just looking for a good color printer and I already had a Brother HL 2140 printer so this was a good fit. The test will be the life of the color cartridges as they can be a little expensive compared to the toner life for the HL 2140?

Major junk
I don't know how well this works if you use it daily, but if you do not use it for a week or so, the colors don't work, does not recognize new cartridges. Makes all kinds of noise, you shut it off , it turns itself back on.
Worst printer I have ever owned. Customer service is lousy. Tried to do online, took 30 minutes to even get anyone! I happened to not be looking at the screen waiting for a couple minutes, and someone showed up and left. REALLY? Took another 20 minutes before I got someone again, and guess what, they couldn't help, they gave me a number to call.

I love this printer
I bought this out of sheer frustration with a Kodak printer I had that was a piece of excrement. After having had 2 other really lousy printers before that lousy printer, I was very frustrated. But this one is great. It prints really well on standard printing but does a really good job on fast printing, which I like to use to save ink. My last 2 printers could barely be read with fast print. The wireless function works great. The directions were easy to install, and it just has not let me down yet. Now I haven't changed the ink yet, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one because I've had issues with this in the past with other printers, even using name brand ink.But so far it lives up to the reputation I read about. I'm very happy with it! I'm not going to say that it's quiet though, because honestly I've never come across a quiet printer. But it's not loud and doesn't shake the house or anything (I had one that used to do the jig when it printed in fast mode) this one doesn't. Definitely a good buy for the money. AND Office Depot delivered it supper quick.
