"Leatherette" means cardstock paper with a stamped imprint that appears like leather, not actual backing that feels like leather (or plastic, as I was assuming it would feel like). Nowhere in the advertising or product details could I tell for sure if it was plastic or paper, and interestingly, the word Leatherette is not even on the actual product labeling that I am now holding in my hand. They were slightly more expensive per folder than the ones that were obviously paper stock in the 25 count packs, and thus from the term Leatherette, I thought they would be nicer backing that was that thin plastic. The thickness is like that of the cheaper stock business cards you design and print out on your own printer.
The clear plastic cover was flawed with a pot mark here, scratches or scrapes there, or even black stuff stuck on the inside from maybe the black paper dye. Those needing to produce formal professional business reports will want something else. I would only recommend this product for school projects or home use, NOT business use.

Im not sure if the manufacturing process is getting it wrong or if they have changed the way these are made but the rings are no longer a closed ring. For whatever reason, it looks like the edge of the rings have been clipped off so there is no way to secure the paper to the folder. I have purchased these on numerous occasions hoping that it was just a bad batch but they are all like this now so I keep having to return them. No matter how you fold the tabs over, it slides out of the ring. Terrible product and they don't seem to be doing anything about it.
