A workhorse
This machine (775) has suited my expectations well. I only need a machine that is dependable and prints faxes that are "good enough".
Most other faxes use an ink cartridge that will kill your budget in buying re-fills. The 775 uses a broad ribbon, similar but wider than the ones used on the old typewriters. The print quality is not as perfect as from an ink cartridge but I have found it plenty good enough. My small business has been using the 775 for about 4 years now and it has been dependable, never let us down. I am saving money on re-fills in three ways:
1. The ribbon cartridges are cheaper than ink cartridges.
2. When the ribbon has rolled out to the end, I simply do what generations of typewriter users did, I re-wind it back to the beginning and the second time around, the print quality is still "good enough".
3. Brother now allows you to buy just the ribbon and replace the old ribbon without having to buy a whole new cartridge.
Between re-winding and just buying the ribbon, I pay less than $5 per month for re-fills.

garbage
I bought this fax machine for light to moderate use. Having a brother fax in our office I thought this would be a good value and perform well for what I intended it for. From the first week I had it the paper would jam when trying to send faxes. Sometimes having to resend 4 or 5 times and recieving faxes, the paper would tilt when starting to recieve and I never would get the faxes sent to me and finally giving up after 2 or 3 trys and calling the people back to send again. This is a terrible fax machine and i am going to throw this one away and look for something that works. A terrible product

Not so good
Bought this machine for fax only, very small office. Receive maybe 2 faxes a week and have had the machine for 3 years.
The print is offset on the page and usually prints on 2 sheets when only 1 is needed, making it hard to read. Print quality is very poor. Paper jams are a constant problem this last year when receiving. The carbon roll is a little tricky to install - would prefer a cartridge. After reading the reviews on many Brother IntelliFax models, will not ever buy one again - paper jams are a problem with most of their machines.
