I've used the P205 for the past 15 years and has been my day-to-day go to pencil. Last year I bought a pack of six of them and as today, all of them are broken. This is unprecedented For four of them, the nibs are broken, for two of them the lead canister is broken.
Formerly a fabulous pencil, the quality has slipped. I won't be buying these anymore.

It takes me years to wear out a Pentel P205 and it's in my hand for hours a day. As a CAD-CAM programmer I use this wonderful mechanical pencil for writing, of course, but mechanical drawing, as a guide to keep track of lines of G and M Codes and have even used the tough, durable tip to dislodge jammed staples!
Where I work we all use a Pentel P205 and nothing gains the ire of a co-worker like his/her missing P205 - we literally stop work and go on an immediate hunt. This thing is our geek equivalent of a security blanket.
The hexagon shape insures the P205 never rolls away and is comfortable to use for extended periods of time. If you MUST use a pencil and use it often and for long periods of time you want this pencil. One of the best bargains for your office supply dollar I can imagine.

Rated 5 out of 5by azone best pencil for 20 years
I've used this mechanical pencil since high school, college, and throughout my job career. That totals over 20 years. One of them that I have and still use is from college and is about 18 years old. I haven't had to buy a new one in decades. I was looking to buy a couple more and very glad they still make them!

I've been using the Pentel P205 since my first job as an internal auditor. My first pencil lasted at least 3-4 years before needing another replacement.
Flow of the lead is consistent - providing crisp and clean writing. The barrel is comfortable and allows for complete instrument control.
I definitely recommend it for accounting and finance work!
