WOW! This drive has to be one of the quietest on the market. It is also very fast. I was not sure what the speeds were on the original drives, but this one is much faster. It was also one of the easiest components I have ever installed in a computer. I turned on my computer, it found the drive, installed the operating system, and I was back up and operating in no time. This drive replaced 2 500G hard drives, and at this price, I am thinking about getting another one of these and having 2 drives with a total of 2TB of storage. March 18, 2011

Just the right price Very economical price for a great product. September 6, 2013

Seagate review Only had it for 2 weeks. It's for back ups. Couldn't get it 'fully' installed. A friend had to do a couple of sinple steps to get it 'recognized'. Instructions were lacking in that respect. $80 was a decent price for 1 TB of space. March 30, 2013

Seagate OWNS the Hard Drive market I have been using computers since the dinosaur age of DOS ..and have,over the years had to replace hard drives at various times and for various reasons,(from filling up back in the 240 MEGABYTE days to failing to work)(boot)..and have tried and used many,many brands including,Hitachi,Samsung,Maxtor,Western Digital,Fujitisu,and of course Seagate.I have to say,of all the brands of hard drives I have used over the years,..the brand I keep coming back to is Seagate...Seagate drives have always impressed me by their quiet operation( the clicking of reading/writing heads in a hard drive is one sound I cannot abide in a computer)..and their quick response times as well as their longevity have always impressed me.YES,hard drives,by any manufacturer are man made objects and ,as such, it is possible to get a bad one.I feel,that is much less likely to happen with Seagate than with another brand. December 1, 2012

to be honest they are written so small you cant read them or i cant,but file transfer between drives is easy and mirroring is easier, your OP can do that for you.If you want to simply backup all the files that is too easy and if you want to mirror the drive ,ask that question and tell what op your using and ill help you do that ,

You can copy and paste. Also, click, drag and drop. Also, highlight a bunch of folders and drag them to the new drive and drop at the new drive. Having both drives, on the screen, makes the process very easy.

does this hard drive operate on the Vista OS?

getting ready to replace a crashed HD and it is a Vista OS. No mention of Vista in the specs but previous ones to Vista are mentioned.

Yes it does and relatively easy to install.
Get yourself a SATA/IDE to USB Adapter kit from a local tech store, so that once you have install the new drive using the OS boot disc or the recovery CD you created, you can then plug in the old drive to recover any information that the old one may have on it.
