It’s always a good idea to get the right packing tape for the job. Whether you’re packing to ship, move or store something important, we’ve got a tape to fit your needs. Office Depot carries a full line of packing tapes in a variety of dimensions and pack sizes, both with and without packaging tape dispensers.
Use quality packing tape to help packages stay secured during transit, arrive safely at their destination and remain sealed until intended. When shipping via a common parcel carrier, such as UPS® or FedEx®, it’s helpful to use a heavy-duty shipping tape with hot melt that’s specially designed to bond quickly and securely with corrugated boxes. Hot melt adhesive helps to keep the boxes sealed under the stresses of transport.
If you’re on the move, you’ll need a tape that’s strong enough to support some weight and adheres to all types of boxes, including boxes made from harder-to-stick-to 100% recycled materials. A hot melt adhesive moving and packing tape with its fast bonding properties is a useful choice for this application, to help your boxes stay sealed during rough handling and bumpy rides in a moving truck or the back seat of a car.
For boxes and cartons being placed in long term storage, it’s important to use a tape that will age well under wide temperature swings and exposure to sunlight or fluorescent lighting. The best bet for these applications is a packing tape with an acrylic based adhesive, which is an adhesive specifically designed to maintain its adhesion over an extended period.
For additional securing of boxes when packing, after the flaps have been secured with traditional packing tape, reinforce the closure of the box flaps with small strips of filament tape halfway to the edge of the box from the center closure. Filament tape is reinforced with glass yarn filaments making it an excellent choice for reinforcing closures to help maintain package integrity during shipping.
And for packages going a considerable distance that are sure to pass through many hands, use a shipping tape designed to survive extreme conditions. One that’s reinforced with continuous glass yarn, for example, is ideal in both horizontal and vertical directions. This tape helps provide added strength and durability, along with holding power under a wide range of application conditions with a minimum amount of tape.
Dispensers are available for most types of tape. When the alternative is to cut the tape with a pair of scissors, a good packing tape dispenser can help make all the difference in the world, even when you’re just packing one box. There are handheld or tabletop dispensers. Handheld dispensers work for most applications, but tabletop dispensers can hold one or more rolls of tape. These are useful for warehouse and shipping facilities.
