Rated 4 out of 5 by GrouchyGaijin from Worth the purchase price, but The NAS was easy to set up and is working to do exactly what it was designed to do. Regarding the people who complained that there are no instructions included with the product, if they mean a physical manual they are correct, however WD does provide extensive online help that walks you through the setup process. As for the 3rd party apps, the choices are fairly limited. There simply is no calendar/task scheduling app. When I contacted WD they said I was free to install anything I wished, but were forbidden to point me in the right direction to find one or how exactly to set it up. The only way to get into the root directory seems to be by SSH and unless the 3rd party vendor has very clear instructions installing and configuring and unofficial apps is a daunting process. I cannot really blame WD for this, but I wish they had included a calendar/scheduling system. Now, speaking of 3rd party apps that are available for download from the WD 3rd party app matrix, both Dropbox and Plex Media Server installed flawlessly. I had them both running properly in a few minuets. The Joomla version is considerably out of date and I was never able to get past connecting it to the Mysql database, so I don't know if it would be possible to migrate to the current stable version of Joomla. When I googled WD EX2 Ultra Joomla installation I found that a huge number of people were having the same problem. I just wanted a local Joomla install to test themes and plug-ins prior to uploading to my actually hosted Joomla server. The PHP admin `program seems to be required (or at least would make life easier) if it were installed prior to attempting to configure the bulletin board system, which I was hoping to use as a quasi-calendar system. Again, the documentation for these two third party apps was insufficient, at least form running them on the WD EX2 Ultra. So the bottom line is that my NAS is working well, I can backup and store files on the NAS. Adding user accounts was easy and the Plex media server works well. I think WD should include some WD specific instructions for installing and configuring the 3rd party apps they list in their app store.
