Chisels

Depending on the blade width, blade length and the shape of the blade, a chisel can be used for a variety of applications. Most chisels are clearly designated for a specific purpose, whether bending, cutting or removing bits of metal or other hard materials, such as wood and stone. A chisel can have force applied, either manually by hand or with an external mechanism, such as a mallet or hammer. Cold chisels are especially durable, featuring a heat-treated design for extra-strong reinforcement.

Punches

The basic formation of a punch is a hard rod with a sharpened tip at one end and a blunt side at the other end. The sharpened tip is used to drive nails and other objects into materials or can be used to make an impression in materials. Look for decorative punches to strike a pattern into thin sheets of metal. In order to drive the sharpened tip into a workpiece, the blunt end can be struck with a hammer.There are many types of punches, including arch, drift and pin punches. Use a pin punch to reach and remove deeply set, stubborn pins in hard-to-reach areas. Drift or line-up punches are perfect for helping to align bolt or rivet holes before you insert a fastener.
