What are the different types of glue?

Glue can be used for many purposes, from kids’ crafts to carpentry projects. Different types of glue serve different purposes. Common variations include wood glue, construction adhesive, epoxy, super glue, contact cement, and craft glue.

Glue also comes in different formats for application. Large containers of portable glue can be used to refill smaller squeeze bottles of glue, for example, while glue sticks consist of a solid adhesive applied by pressing it onto a surface. There are also adhesive glue sprays.

While most glue is white or clear, there’s also colorful glue available. This can be useful for easily seeing where glue has been applied. For example, it’s easier to see where blue glue has been applied on a white piece of paper than white glue.

What is the strongest glue?

Industrial-strength adhesives offer the best hold. For example, the Delo brand boasts glues that can lift a weighted three-axle truck (weighing 17.5 tons)! However, this adhesive strength is designed for industrial purposes, such as construction work. It isn’t recommended for everyday use, as it can cause damage if people accidentally get it on their hands.

People who need something stronger than craft glue for use in the home, office, or classroom can opt for “super glue.” This has more adhesive hold than craft glue, and it dries faster, making it great for more robust crafting projects or even small temporary home repairs. In addition to the original Super Glue brand name, which has been genericized and is now used to refer to many different super glues.

Which glue is best for kids?

Glue is commonly used in classrooms for younger children, usually for arts and crafts. Parents may need to buy glue when going back-to-school shopping for kids to use in homework and classroom assignments. For kids, craft glue is ideal. It provides enough adhesive hold for crafting and isn’t as strong as super glue, which can damage skin if kids come into contact with it. Elmer’s is a popular, kid-safe brand.
