Sensitive electronic equipment, such as computers, servers, medical devices, home theater systems and telephone and networking equipment, rely on a steady supply of power to operate. In the event of a power outage, a surge of voltage could damage sensitive equipment when power is restored, resulting in damage or complete loss of data.
