Retail promotions and display cases often involve a balancing act between showing off your shiny new arrivals and making sure people don’t forget about your classic merchandise or services. Designing a store that showcases both can take some creativity, but the right signage and accessories can help you rise to the challenge. If you’re looking for some fresh ways to improve customer engagement and convert more views to sales, consider these tactics.
Get Creative with Graphics
You probably already know the importance of exterior signs in creating a brand identity and setting your business apart, but interior signs can be just as important. Digital signage can be a great way to highlight special sales or promotional events that change regularly, and they can range in style from simple scrolling displays to high-definition screens. If you’re on the artistic side, a chalkboard-style sign can help bring a little personality and charm to your store. Be careful, though, as misspellings or handwriting that is difficult to read can create an unprofessional look that may turn new customers away. Banners are an old standby, but they remain in use because they get the job done. Don’t be afraid to have a little fun with colors and fonts, but don’t go overboard. It’s better to create a coherent, themed look, especially if you're using multiple banners throughout the store.
Rethink Your Display Cases
Positioning can be everything when it comes to helping customers navigate your store. Your products should seem accessible and should also appear in logical locations. It’s a good idea to place new merchandise in highly visible displays near the front of the store, but consider pairing it with items you regularly keep in stock to keep both in the forefront of your customers' minds. Make sure your display shelves are visible and accessible, too. Unlike the standard glass counter for valuable items, freestanding displays let your customers see your merchandise from multiple angles and can help you create smaller themes to stir a shoppers’ interest and showcase old and new items together. Consider using custom signage to highlight new items, explain product features, or draw customers’ attention to sale or clearance items. Clear plastic frames with custom-printed paper signs in them can be a great way to provide extra details about new merchandise, and you can reuse them every time you get new items in stock.
Paint a Picture
There’s a good chance your regular customers are stopping by to pick up items they know are in stock, but you may be able to turn that regular visit into more sales with promotional signage. Up to 61 percent of shoppers wind up bringing home extra impulse items, and your in-store signage and displays can help. Use laminated signs to create custom information about new products, including specs, sales materials and other customer testimonials. Grouping a variety of items together to form a set piece is another effective tactic. For food items, for example, try subtly suggesting other pairings, such as beverages and serving accessories, by placing the items together on an end cap or display shelf. Make it easy for your customers to imagine themselves using the product at home. Large printed posters or banners that show the item in use can also fill this role if display space is limited.
Whether you’re gearing up for a major sale or simply going through regular seasonal changes, highlighting new items without forgetting about your old standbys is important. The creative use of display techniques and custom retail signage makes it easy to achieve both goals while making it easy for your customers to find what they need.
