The Right Tools
For aspiring do-it-yourselfers or experienced carpenters, the right tools make all the difference. If outlets are sparse, opt for cordless drills and drivers. Choose a 12- to 18-volt power drill that you can use wherever you need it as long as its charged.
Tool Storage Options
As your collection of tools grows, it's important to keep them organized. If you have a large, permanent tool chest in your man cave, look for a small, portable tool box that you can take with you on the go. Consider one with an inner tray to store pencils and smaller tools.
Small Item Storage
To keep your work surface uncluttered, use plastic storage containers to keep small items organized. Make use of vertical space by hanging adjustable shelves on the wall. Fill plastic bins with screws, nails and hooks, and take the containers with you whenever a job requires them.
Task lighting is a key component for almost any man cave, regardless of what activities will take place in the space. If you plan on spending countless hours working on intricate projects, get a lamp you can rely on using for long periods of time. LED models which can help keep energy costs lower than standard lighting are a smart choice.
Stealthy Surface Space
If floor space is limited but you find yourself needing table space, keep a folding table or two in a closet or corner. Slide furniture or other items out of the way to set up the table when it's needed for a hobby or weekend poker night.
Whether you're pulling your stool up to a bar or folding table, height is important. Measure the space between the counter and the floor. Choose a short stool for a space less than 30 inches high, a counter-height stool for 35 to 39 inches and a bar-height stool for 40 to 43 inches.
Shelving lets you store lots of items without taking up a large footprint. Organize items on your shelves based on their use. If you need frequent access to an item, keep it at eye level. Use overhead shelving for seasonal items, and place them in clear bins for easy identification.
