The Reason They are CheapAs a teacher, pencils are paramount. So to find inexpensive pencils that are awesome is a great thing. Unfortunately, these are not those pencils. Getting a bare "B", at least 2 of every dozen are bad, with the lead continually breaking even as you are sharpening them for the first time.
So I'm stuck getting them because of the price but I'm not happy about them.

2B Sketch PencilCompared with 5 other "name brand" drawing pencil sets that I own. General's, Staedtler, Sanford, etc. Pencil is closer to a 2B depending on the brand. Considering I got these on sale for about 6 cents a piece, it was a steal. Seems to draw smoothly without any clumps in the graphite/clay mixture.
This probably explains the complaints about students chewing through their pencils incredibly fast with a sharpener and broken lead.
H pencils have more clay and are harder/lighter. B pencils have more graphite and are softer/darker. HB is in the middle. But there's no universal standard for the HB mixture so it depends on the brand.
Only problem I have now is my growing pencil stub collection. Maybe build a sculpture?
