Torpedo Levels
A torpedo level is a perfect tool for carrying in a tool belt, pocket or tool bag. Most are compact, generally between six and nine inches, and are ideal for using in close quarters where larger levels won't fit. Most torpedo levels feature measurement vials for indicating horizontal, vertical or plumb as well as 45° placement. Torpedo levels come in a range of materials, from wood to plastic to metal. Some feature magnetic surfaces.
Carpenter Levels
Carpenter levels are generally larger than torpedo levels, often measuring between two and four feet in length. They will also measure horizontal, vertical or plumb and 45° placement. Some levels even have replaceable vials. If a vial becomes damaged, it could affect the accuracy of your reading. Replace the vial as soon as possible to get back on track.
Line Levels
Line levels are ideal for checking levels over distances and work in conjunction with a line stretched between two points. Places along the line can be marked to ensure proper positioning of objects. When marking your line, be sure to use a marker holder with your marker for ease of use.
