We started this Supply Closet Challenge with one mission in mind: to create super-fun, out-of-the-box, totally off-the-shelf DIY costumes from commonly used office and school supplies. Spoons and glitter became a statement necklace fit for a queen. Paper clips turned into a knight’s armored chainmail. A pencil pouch and a bubble mailer made the perfect astronaut’s helmet. An elaborate ball gown was created from nothing more than recycled copy paper. It was as if every bin we opened gave way to a new idea for a clever Halloween get-up.

ALL HAIL THE QUEEN!

Good Goddess!

All hail the Queen! Jackie, our Cleopatra, walks like an Egyptian in her flowing gown made of plastic bags, adorned with the finest statement necklace made out of nothing but plastic spoons encrusted in gold glitter. Her gold washi tape and fastener brad headpiece features a bright blue candy amulet found in the deepest cavern of an ancient tomb (or shelf). Amanda, our make-shift mummy, is wrapped from head to toe in rolls of gauze and toilet paper. 

Never fear! Caleb, our knight in shining armor, is here! Suited in his paper clip chain mail, duct-taped cardboard warrior pauldrons and face armor, topped with a Swiffer plume, and his trusty meter-stick sword in hand, he’s prepared to slay the most ferocious beast with ease. The dragon, with its snaggle toothed grin (made of cardboard) and fiery red eyes (made of tablecloths) and muscular physique (body made of trash bags) was no match for our knight of steel (or should we say “tin”).

Let them eat cake! Looking superbly fancy and rather proper is Keisha, our gracious Aristocrat.

Elaborately dressed in a hand-made gown made from recycled copy paper and embellished with paper flowers and ruffles, she’s ready to paint the town white. Her baroque paper wig perfectly tops off her reception-ready look.

The costumes are quirky and their cuteness is out of this world! Lauren, our curious Rocketeer, is busy exploring the Milky Way in her bubble-mailer space suit and duct-tape jet pack when she discovers Briella, the pleasant green Alien from a distant planet. With her twinkling neon eraser lights and friendly foam-ball eyes, the two instantly gravitate towards each other and float through outer space together. Katie, dressed in a pitch-black outfit dark as night, plays the role of our galaxy, complete with an inflatable solar system.
