In rack enclosures, every bit of available space is precious, especially when the rack is home to multiple servers and other pieces of networking equipment. In order to conserve rack space and simultaneously streamline management techniques and boost efficiency, consider rack-mounted KVM modules.KVM modules combine a KVM switch, keyboard, monitor and touchpad all in one compact frame. To complete your setup, consider purchasing a KVM networking cable for simple connectivity.

Integrated KVM Switch

An integrated KVM switch is the central component of KVM modules and the number of ports built in will tell you how many computers can be connected and controlled from the module. A 16-port switch provides access to 16 computers with either USB, PS/2 or Cat5 connectivity.

Built-In Monitor

The monitor section of KVM modules is usually built into the cover portion and flips up as needed. With monitor sizes ranging from 14"" to 19"", it's easy to find an appropriate size to display visuals. When selecting a KVM module, pay attention to the monitor's aspect ratio and screen resolution. A screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 will showcase stunningly clear, high-definition media, while a 1280 x 1024 resolution is better for viewing basic documents and files.

Built-In Keyboard and Touchpad

Typing and navigating around connected computers is a breeze thanks to a built-in keyboard and touchpad. The keyboard and touchpad are usually built into the bottom section of rack-mountable KVM modules and some models support the connection of an external mouse for even easier control.
