Making St. Patrick's Day Fun for the Office and Remote Workers

March 1, 2022

For many, St. Patrick’s Day consists of dressing in green, eating corned beef and cabbage, and wearing silly hats. If you’re working on St. Patrick’s Day, you can still celebrate the Irish tradition.

We’ve got a few decorating ideas, some delicious recipes, and an arsenal of exciting activities to help you create a memorable St. Patrick’s Day party with your co-workers and employees, whether in-office or remote.

Your Theme: Decorate With All Things Green

Since St. Patrick’s Day is an annual holiday that many people look forward to, you can have fun with decorations to spruce up your workspace.

Consider going the DIY route: Cut shamrock shapes out of construction paper to hang on your walls or create gold and green paper chains to string up around different areas. You can use felt sheets in various colors to create a rainbow garland or wreath and cover desks with gold and green tablecloths. Invite employees to dress in green and hold a contest for the most festive outfit. Consider buying fun hats, glasses, and bead necklaces — you can customize them with your company logo for an extra special giveaway to the team. For teams with remote workers, you can still hold a contest for the most festive outfit and invite everyone to a video meeting to show off their style!

Enjoy St. Patty’s Day Treats

There are plenty of tasty food and beverage options for an Irish celebration. Share some festive ideas with your employees, whether you’re celebrating in the office or remotely.

For instance, add some sugar and whipping cream to their work-friendly version of Irish coffee to start their holiday right. Green smoothies are another option to stay energized throughout the day. Green napkins can also add to the St. Patrick’s Day ambiance.

Other tasty treats include Irish soda bread, corned beef and cabbage, and shamrock-decorated cupcakes. Combine sherbet, Canada Dry ginger ale, and pineapple juice for a festive St. Patrick’s Day punch.

Plan Irish-Inspired Activities

You can enhance your party theme by planning fun activities to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day. Take breaks throughout the workday to play a few games of Lucky Shamrock Bingo or ask trivia questions about Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day.

To add to the excitement, why not incorporate a digital shamrock hunt? Hide shamrock cut-outs around your office or put virtual shamrocks in shared digital spaces for employees to find, giving out small prizes to those who discover them all. For remote teams, try challenging everyone with an online quiz or group call where team members can participate. Consider awarding each winner small prizes, such as a gift card. Let employees add to the festive atmosphere by holding a workspace-decorating contest. Have managers vote on the best design and award prizes to the winners.

Just because you have to work on St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the holiday. Create crafty decorations to make your workspace feel more festive. Dig up some delicious recipes to enjoy Irish-inspired dishes, and find fun games and activities to add to the merriment.
