Regardless of whether you’re working from your backyard, in your office, embracing the digital nomad lifestyle or a little bit of all the above, it’s apparent there are ways you can work from anywhere. You just need the right tools and services to make it possible.

We’ve compiled a quick list of ways some of our #DiscoverDepot customers who own businesses utilize certain tools and services to get more done while not having to stay confined in their office space. Check them out and see what could help your business grow.

1. Shipping when getting supplies

Many eCommerce business owners who sell online often do the branding, packing and shipping to get their products to their customers. @chelseamohrman is own of those small business owners who has found convenience and efficiency during her busy shipping seasons by not only getting all of her shipping supplies, but also packing and shipping her items right from the store.

“Not only can I stock up on all my supplies (like paper, ink, boxes etc) for a busy shipping season… I can have it all packed and shipped in the same visit. I’m all about efficiency so this is a huge win-win for me!”

So, if you’re working outside the office and running errands in between, cross off shipping your products to customers off your business to-list while you’re at it.

2. Business planning from anywhere

If you’re running a business, you always need to have a plan for what comes next, a likely the next few steps after that! There are multiple tools to make it easier to do it from your couch, the office and even the local beach or park. Having the right planner (or set of planners depending on your process) gives you the ability to truly work from anywhere.

TUL is very customizable when it comes to size, maneuverability of inserts and paper and to top it off there’s a notebook that will charge your phone for when there are no outlets around (you know… because you’re on a beach). If you’re a fan of both analog and digital notetaking, check out the Rocketbook, which lets you build your notes and plans on paper and then save those notes in the cloud for digital safekeeping and ease of access.

3. Staying connected outside

It’s getting easier to stay connected with your team when you’re out of the office. Lauren McGoodwin, founder of Career Contessa shares in her blog how to work from outdoors. Here are some of her key points to having a successful workday under the sun so you can soak up some of that Vitamin D.

Prepare with a checklist – that’s right, get your planner out and jot down everything you may need for your workday. Lauren suggests things like pens, notebooks, your laptop, a wireless hotspot if you need to be connected to the Internet and anti-microbial wipes.

  • Find a shady spot so your electronics don’t get overheated.
  • Pack your bag the night before.
  • Wear sunscreen and bring snacks!

“When planning your big trip outside, create a checklist of what you might need to work uninterrupted. Take a look around your desk right now. What do you need to work successfully outdoors? What is a distraction from the work you need to do? Make a list!”

4. Create and get marketing on the go

Did you know you can design your marketing materials online and then send the file to Office Depot to have it printed for you to pick up? So, if you took advice #3, you can just make a pit-stop to pick up your marketing materials after designing them on your laptop.

Instagram user and business owner @gear4littles shares how she works on the go by ordering her products for her office and marketing online and then picking it up in-store. It can be comforting for an entrepreneur to know they can get printing jobs done in the same day, from wherever they are (with an Internet connection).
