What to Look For

When selecting an anchor shackle and pin, be sure to review the inner length of the pin and the opening size of the eye. You want to make sure the pin and the eye will accommodate whatever you plan to attach to it - for example, a lift sling. Choose a pin made of strong steel, and look for options that are heat treated and tempered for added durability. Be sure to choose a pin with the appropriate working load limits as well.

A Secure Hold

When attaching your load, make sure to attach it to the rounded part of the eye and at a straight angle. Any variance decreases the working load limit. For added protection, be sure to use wire or electrical cable between the eye of the pin and the eye of the shackle to make sure the pin does not undo itself.
